A Wedding Fit For Wonderland!

This past weekend, I had the honor to perform at the wedding of my dear friends, Marz and Geoff. I played piano for "All You Need Is Love" for Marz's walk down the aisle, and "Take Me The Way I Am" for their first dance.

I don't think Marz and Geoff ever saw me perform. I just sang around them and sometimes at karaoke. I admit, I was a little scared when they first asked me, but it was just part of the drowning fear of everything that I was going through at the time. Marz did say to me that she was worried it would be too hard on me because of my anxiety, but I knew I could do it.

I was working with a whole group of our friends; Jungle on the bongo, Link on the flute and Joseph on the Ukelele. We only had a few rehearsals. At one of them I realized that a little help was needed for the timing in "All You Need Is Love." I was afraid to step in at first. I didn't want to come off like I was trying to take over. My music education came back to me and I broke it down and figured out how to help cue everyone. I even played piano with them and it turned out that they liked how it sounded in addition the the ukelele and flute.

I must say, I practiced a lot for a simple minute and a half of music. I could not let Marz and Geoff down. I asked them what they thought of my arrangement and took all suggestions. I made recordings for everyone to practice with. I feel like if this was even a few months ago, I would not have put as much effort into this.

Marz, I missed most of your walk down the aisle as my face was buried in the music and everyone was standing to greet your royalty, but you looked so happy and majestic when you arrived at the alter to meet your husband to be. Your first dance was incredible. I'm so glad you had the drive for perfection and started over. You knew you could do it. You both practiced the hell out of that dance and you nailed it. Jungle, Joseph and Link; you guys were awesome.

The whole wedding was spectacular and a true labor of love by everyone involved. The ceremony was administered by a minister of the Church of Bacon with scriptures read from "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy." The alter was adorned with giant handmade paper flowers made by the couple and their friends. The vows were so well crafted. The aisle and flower petals were all laid out by friends. The centerpieces were made by a friend. It was DJed, MCed and photographed by friends. The dance was choreographed by a friend. These are all the best kind of gifts.

It was a burner black tie wedding so there were pirates, glitter, LED lights and cool costuming all around. Marz and Geoff even had second looks for the night complete with glowing outfits. She looks like a flying fairy in my pictures. It was truly a fantasy wedding come to life. You could feel the love of everybody in the room. They are both such caring, smart, creative, beautiful individuals and really do surround themselves with like minded people.

Marz and Geoff, just by asking me sing for your special day gave me a spark to sing again. You encouraged me and trusted me more than I could trust myself at the time. It's amazing how close you can become with people in such a short time.

Yours was the most magical wedding I've ever attended and by far the most personal and creative. A childhood fantasy wedding come to life with a little help from a lot of friends.Thank you to everyone who made that day what it was.
